The NMC is held under the umbrella of the Professional Beauty group event, Professional Beauty Autumn show, at ExCeL London. This prestigious competition is designed to celebrate the art of massage, promote excellence, and foster a sense of community among therapists.
Categories
1. Advanced/Clinical Massage Participants perform a 1-hour massage that includes advanced techniques such as deep tissue, remedial/sports techniques, MFR, NMT, trigger points, and mobilization. This category is suited for sports and clinical therapists, including physiotherapists, osteopaths, and chiropractors who incorporate massage treatments. Note: Manipulations are not allowed.
Subcategory: Medical/Clinical Massage If there are 5+ entries, this subcategory will be awarded separately. It allows the use of tools such as cupping (dry/fire cupping, not wet cupping), dry needling, massage guns, and moxibustion. This subcategory is suited for professionals who use a more medical/clinical skillset.
2. Freestyle Massage This category includes a 1-hour massage inspired by either Western or Eastern modalities. Participants showcase a rich mix of skills from various traditions, including the use of tools such as hot stones, bamboo sticks, Thai tools, singing bowls, reflexology tools, cupping, and acupuncture.
3. Swedish/Deep Tissue Massage Participants perform a 1-hour massage using movements from classic Swedish or deep tissue massage. Both techniques can be combined, and classic stretching is allowed. Note: Advanced movements and tools are not permitted.
Subcategory: Lomi Lomi Massage If there are 5+ entries, this subcategory will be awarded separately, focusing on the traditional Hawaiian Lomi Lomi massage technique.
4. Spa/Wellness Massage This category features a 1-hour massage using classical Swedish, beauty, and spa-style techniques. Advanced massage techniques are not permitted, making this ideal for those focused on relaxation and wellness.
5. Facial Massage Participants perform a 45-minute to 1-hour facial massage, with or without the use of tools and products. This category is perfect for those specializing in facial therapies and beauty treatments.
6. Eastern Massage This 1-hour massage category is based on Eastern medical systems, including Traditional Thai Massage, Thai Yoga massage, Shiatsu, Ayurveda, and other techniques from Indonesia and Polynesia. Tools such as singing bowls, scarves, bamboo sticks, and stones are allowed. Note: Acupuncture and cupping are not permitted.
7. Chair Massage Participants perform a 40-minute massage using an industry-standard professional massage chair. The model must be fully clothed. Creativity in technique is encouraged. Participants must supply their own chair or request one when registering.
International Entries The competition is open to participants from around the world, showcasing the global diversity of massage therapy techniques.
4-Hand Massage 4-hand massage is allowed in all categories.
